Wuza Wuza!

Educated in traditional African music and sharing the vision of preserving and creatively developing African music and dance, Wuza-Wuza’s NYC-based members are leading performers and instructors who have trained or collaborated with Ghana’s most prestigious companies, such as the National Dance Company of Ghana, the Noyam African Dance Institute, the Sogo Dance Troupe, Nbanba Culture dance, N.Y.C. Dance troupe, and the Gyanomo Dance Troupe, among many others. Ghanian dancer, researcher, and educator Yawuza Alhassan, director of the Wuza Wuza Ensemble and the Wuzaland Cultural Center, discusses the meaning of bamaaya music, one of the most popular musical genres performed in Ghana at public events.

Recognition of the Contributions of Indigenous Peoples.

We thank the indigenous peoples, caretakers of Mother Earth for many millennia, realizing and respecting her gifts of water, fire and air. This relationship is based on their profound spiritual connection to Mother Earth, the connection that guided their ancestors to practice reverence, humility and reciprocity.

Everything taken is used with the understanding only what is needed is taken. What is taken is watchfully used, aware of the amount taken and the method with which it is taken, to ensure future generations are not put in peril

We gratefully acknowledge the Native peoples on whose ancestral homelands we present our .performances, as well as the Native Communities who make their home in the Yonkers area today.
